About WearAble Wardrobes and its founder Dr Gina Kingston

Gina Kingston (she/her) is a personal stylist and colour consultant who believes that everyone deserves to look and feel good.

WearAble Wardrobes is an inclusive company that is proud to include people with a disability, men, women and trans people amongst its clients.

She is a scientist who has a BSc and a PhD in Information Systems. She has worked for over 30 years in the public sector in a variety of research and leadership roles.

Gina uses a scientific approach to determining the best clothes for her clients unique needs, rather than relying just on traditional body shapes.

Gina’s interest in style for people with health issues began when he mother was diagnosed with a Multiple System Atrophy, a Parkinson’s Plus disorder.  Her mother lost the ability to wear heels, then used a walker and finally ended up in a wheelchair and needed assistance to get dressed.

She still wanted to look stylish.

Gina began researching adaptive clothing to provide safer dressing solutions for her mother.  Ones that didn’t cause her mother pain, or risk injury to one or both of them. She realised that there were many more people like her mother who could benefit from her research.

Gina works with clients with a range of health issues, not jus those that identify as having a disability. Gina has scoliosis, nerve pain, and sensitive skin.  She also suffered from adenomyosis and chronic pain before she has a hysterectomy in her late 30s so she has some personal understanding of her clients’ requirements.

Gina started blogging after qualifying as an image consultant and now blogs to raise awareness of people with disability and adaptive clothing.

Gina consults with clients through her image consultancy and through the Academy of Professional Image. She enjoys researching solutions to her clients’ dressing challenges.

Services

Gina’s favourite service is being able to help people get more from the clothes they already own, identifying the key pieces that will make it easier to pull together comfortable stylish outfits and doing the research to find those key pieces for her clients.

She does this through wardrobe edits, shopping sessions and her online program.

She believes that everyone deserves to look good and feel comfortable, to get dressed easily, and to have energy left to enjoy life.

Gina takes a scientific approach to style which takes into account your personal body shape, posture, mobility, aids and goals. Gina knows that not everyone has the perfect hourglass figure, looks like the traditional apple or pear that you will find in most books and online, and the majority of people don’t spend most of their time standing.

All her services, including colour analysis, have been designed with the needs of people with health issues in mind. She offers in home consultations, virtual consultations, and shorter sessions for those who require them.

Gina also stocks wearable clothes and shoes that are comfortable and stylish and wearable by people of different abilities so that people can touch and feel them in the comfort of their home or hers before buying.

Gina has helped people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Multiple System Atrophy, Knee injuries, Depression, Eczema, Autism, Scoliosis and more. Gina loves research, so if she hasn’t come across your circumstances before she will listen to your needs and get cracking to find your perfect solution so you don’t have to.

Advocacy

Gina is a published author and international speaker. She is an advocate for inclusion in all its forms and is available to speak or write for forums that are interested in stylish, practical clothing such as OT conventions and Parkinson’s societies. She prefers face-to-face forums and publications as she has voice issues that can make it hard for people to hear her in online forums.

Please contact Gina for more information.

Gina has been interviewed by the media and has been featured in Inside Retail, The Adaptive Clothing Collective Magazine and The Carer’s Champion. She has spoken multiple times with the Joyful Frugalista, Business at Breakfast Canberra and ABC Radio Canberra.

Values

  • Fair

Fairness manifests itself in two ways at WearAble Wardrobe.

Inclusion: Everyone deserves a wardrobe of clothes that look and feel good. Clothes that enable them to enjoy the world as much as possible. That includes people with different health needs and abilities; people of different shapes, sizes and gender; and people of different ages and ethnicities. That’s why we provide styling services to anyone who needs it.

Sustainability: Our children and our grandchildren should also be able to enjoy the world. That’s why we embrace sustainable practices and clothing as part of our services.

  • Analytical

We don’t believe in one size fits all. That’s why we’ll put in the hard yards to help you create a wardrobe that you love based on your needs.

Research: We’ll put in the hard work to find clothing solutions that are right for you. Whether that is clothes that meet your values, your health needs, or your body.

Systems: While some stylists will tell you what to wear without telling you why, we’ll help you understand the reasons why some clothes and outfits just don’t work for you while others do. So that you have the skills and systems to evolve your wardrobe on your own - although we are always happy to help!

  • Options Oriented

We don’t pretend that there is just one way of doing things. We’ll work with you to find the best way for you.

Working with us: We can tailor consultations to meet your needs. Whether that’s meeting in your home or mine, having shorter sessions, assessing the fit of clothes without you having to try them on, providing information both verbally and in writing or just understand the need for fidget toys.

Wardrobe Options: We think outside the box of your best colours and styles to give you options for clothes and outfits that meet your needs and your personality.
